We Bought a House—And It’s a Fixer-Upper.

June 18, 2015 by Talia Bunting 5 Comments

We bought our first house last month. It’s what you might call a fixer-upper. Right now we’re missing flooring in two rooms and our living room wall split in two when we had the foundation fixed. But, we have a home and it’s our home. Also I can walk to the farmers market three blocks down, so thats a happy time. Of course I can’t afford to buy anything anymore. We’re on a strict beans and rice diet for the next 15 years.

Here’s some pictures of the home in the beginning stages and hopefully our little house of dreams will reach the charming potential it has and I’ll get to share part of the journey as we go.

Buying a fixer-upper

Right after we closed.

Have to fix the hole in the wall. Also the paint.

I don't even know where to begin.

Carpet has to go, walls have to be repainted, closet needs to be pulled out so the washer/dryer actually fits inside.

I haven’t even shown you pictures of the kitchen yet (think mustard linoleum, yellow orange walls and awkward spacing). But the dining room, I love. It still needs fresh paint on the walls, new blinds and a new light fixture—but it’s the perfect space for friends to sit and share a laugh and maybe their dreams over dinner and dessert. If you’re in our little neck of the woods I hope you’ll stop by for a slice of tart and coffee and do just that.

P.S. We’re still working on furnishing the house and have discovered the best website ever for that (Craigslist prices, plus free delivery (within 30 miles) and no emailing strangers). It’s called Moveloot, they’re in Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Raleigh-Duraham and Charlotte right now and expanding quickly beyond that. If you sign up using this link it will give you a $25 credit and then if you use the code taliabunting when checking out, it will give you an additional 10% off! I’ll share more on this later though (including some of the furniture I’ve already gotten from their site!).

Does that all make sense? To sum up: Sign up with this link and get a $25 credit. When you check out, use the code taliabunting for 10% off!
