I’m in that awkward stage of post-pregnancy where you’re tired of maternity clothes, they’re a little big, but you’re certainly not back in to your normal clothes. They say 9 months up, 9 months down – I say 9 months up, 20 years down. Or at least that’s how long I’m pretty sure it will take me. Seriously, my body seems to think that when I’m nursing it needs to go into starvation mode and hang on to every little bit of fat because WHAT IF WE DON’T GET ENOUGH CALORIES TO FEED THE BABY. Trust me body, that is not going to be your problem. The hollandaise sauce I’ve recently discovered will see to that.
Celebrating Independence with Pimento Cheese
When we were in California last week, we made sure to go to one of our favorite restaurants – the Lark. One day I’l get my act together and write a proper review of the place. But for now, let me tell you that before the Lark I couldn’t understand the pimento cheese trend.
My sister-in-law (Kathy), Joe and I decided to grab drinks and a bite to eat the night before we left. Kathy ordered the pimento cheese and it was so delicious we both went home and tried our own variations. Once we were back in Georgia, and since we live in the South and since it’s a traditional dish for July 4th, I decided to make it for the 4th of July party we attended.
We Bought a House—And It’s a Fixer-Upper.
We bought our first house last month. It’s what you might call a fixer upper. Right now we’re missing flooring in two rooms and our living room wall split in two when we had the foundation fixed. But, we have a home and it’s our home. Also I can walk to the farmers market three blocks down, so thats a happy time. Of course I can’t afford to buy anything anymore. We’re on a strict beans and rice diet for the next 15 years.
Raspberry Tart: The Tart I Can’t Stop Making
As a rule I don’t like fruit desserts. Desserts should be chocolate, or at the very least made entirely of butter. I’ve been on a tart kick lately (my mom even threatened to write our Remy’s name on the birth certificate as Tart Bunting). Since the chocolate tart was starting to make guest appearances in my dreams, I decided it was time to come up with a new version – the raspberry tart. Don’t worry this one has a lot of butter.
The Time I Ate an Endangered Species for Lunch
A week or so ago my dad invited me to attend a meal cooked by Hugh Acheson. Acheson teamed up with Seeds of Change to bring awareness to flavors that were becoming extinct to the culinary world. He was going to cook a three course meal for 70 some people with ingredients that were going extinct and no one knew what he was cooking.

My First Maternity Stitch Fix Review
A year and two months ago my husband and I packed all our stuff into storage and moved to Paris for two months. Then we came back and moved to California for 6 months. Now we’re back in North Georgia and trying to move to Altanta (STILL HOUSE HUNTING), our stuff still in storage. Needless to say, the clothes we packed for two months in Paris have long since gotten old. Gaining 40 lbs of baby (yes, I’m having a 40 lb. baby, I don’t want to hear it) has not helped in the clothing situation, so when Stitch Fix announced they were starting to sell maternity clothes (and petite clothes, for all you teeny-weenies out there!) as well, I was all over it. I got my first one in the mail last weekend and couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!
Cosmopolitans – What I Will Drink after This Baby Shows Up
Mostly when I drink I like beer. It’s refreshing and I can have more than one. But towards the end of both of my pregnancies I have craved Cosmopolitans. Perhaps its a throwback to my early twenties. Cosmos were the first drink I learned to make as a bartender. My friends and I used to get in the hot tub and drink cosmos after a long shift. Maybe my swollen ankles and weepy self remember late evenings spent relaxing after a hard days work, because I promise you, post-baby, it is one of the first things I will be doing!
Stout Chocolate Cake with Irish Cream Frosting
This week was hard so I decided I should make this cake. It’s great for using up leftover Guiness and Irish cream from St. Patrick’s day (although “using up” is not a phrase I would put in the same sentence as Guiness and Baileys). At any rate, next time you need a pick me up (or a dinner party finale) I recommend this option.
My Husband’s Favorite Selfie from 2014
This picture should explain why there have been no blogs. The thought of food made me want to hurl. So, I took a small sabbatical and created a human (ETA April 1). Since I can now stomach something besides Saltines, future blogs shall be forthcoming (theoretically).
