Raise your hand if you’ve ever been to the store in October, bought twelve cans of pumpkin puree only to get home and realize dang, that’s a lot of pumpkin. There are only so many pumpkin pies people will tolerate before Thanksgiving. Don’t worry, I have your solution: tangy pumpkin bars.
Banana Bread Pancakes (with Chocolate Chips)
If you’re a parent, then inevitably you’ve got a freezer full of frozen bananas. All you single people are laughing wondering why the heck we have a freezer full of bananas. Well I’ll tell you. It’s because bananas are cheap, so you buy bananas for your kids to eat for breakfast. But then he doesn’t want a banana for breakfast. And since the thought of throwing away a perfectly good banana is repulsive, you freeze it. And since it would be entirely too logical to start buying fewer bananas—you have a freezer full of them.
The Best Gunshow in Atlanta
Kevin Gillespie of Top Chef fame has his newest venture, Gunshow, and it’s only a mile and a half from my house. Joe and I have been wanting to go for awhile and when we discovered that two of our friends have also been dying to try it, I immediately made a reservation.
The Best Homemade Tomato Sauce
I’ve been working my way through the mother sauces on Rouxbe. So far I’ve done two — tomato and hollandaise. However, I think I still have PTSD from making the hollandaise so it’ll be awhile before I’m ready to share that adventure. But the tomato sauce, that’s just fun.
Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Asian Vinaigrette
When Joe and I lived in California last year we found a funky restaurant that we loved called The Lark. It was our go to date night spot. Sometimes we just went for drinks, sometimes we went for dinner, but regardless, we always ordered the brussel sprouts. They deep fry them and then toss them in an Asian vinaigrette. Get into my belly right now.
How to Pan Fry: Pork Tenderloin Medallions
I’m continuing my online food education each week. I’m telling you people, I love it. The course I’m currently taking is called: Mastering Your Fry Pan. I’m learning pan frying (obvi), searing, sweating, sautéing and pan tossing. The best part about learning about food is yum, you get to eat it all. Last week my mom stayed with…
September Stitch Fix Review
I’m still on the hunt for clothes that fit me on my slow but sure race back to my normal size. I got my September Stitch Fix in the mail yesterday and I need your opinions. What do I keep, what do I send back?
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread
Inevitably, towards the beginning of September you wake up and fall is in the air (I guess unless you’re my one reader who lives in Thailand). The temperature still reaches 90 degrees by 3pm, but the mornings are cool with a slight breeze and the air smells like fall is coming. And when that happens, the first thing I start doing is dreaming up pumpkin and butternut squash recipes (I’m about as cliche as they come).
Tostones: The Caribbean French Fry
Remember how yesterday I talked about how I made ketchup to go with the tostones I’d been craving? And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t share my tostones recipe? An awful one, that’s what kind. So here you go.
How to Make Homemade Ketchup from Scratch
I’ve been wanting to try creating homemade ketchup for awhile anyway. Let me tell you, it was delicious. I will never eat store bought ketchup again (it’s so easy and the taste improvement is great).
